The deadly coronavirus outbreak is putting college spring break plans on hold.
Students from NYU, Columbia University, Cornell University, and Syracuse University have been urged to stay local for spring break and not travel internationally, the New York Post reports.
Destinations, including Cancun and Cabo, Mexico, as well as the Bahamas, are popular for spring break.
Universities are recommending that students reconsider their plans to avoid contracting COVID-19, which has already killed more than a dozen Americans.
Syracuse University issued an advisory against both international and domestic travel “to avoid the possibility that your freedom of movement may become restricted.”
NYU Student Health Associate VP Dr. Carlo Ciotoli said, “We know that spring break, which begins soon, is often a time for travel. I would urge you to reconsider any personal international travel as well.
“In the current environment, it is entirely conceivable that you may end up in a quarantined zone.”
