The Coronavirus is undeniably one of the biggest public health scares most of us have ever witnessed. Everywhere you go, it’s all anyone is talking about. Whether you are stocking up on food and water, excessively buying cleaning supplies, or walking around with face masks and gloves, it’s safe to say that there’s no wrong way to react to such a health crisis. What if, in spite of your best attempts to stay free from germs, you happen to fall ill and are quarantined in your home? While it’s scary to think of, the truth is all of our lives are hectic, and the threat of possibly getting sick is honestly just the thing to help get back to basics and enjoy the simpler things in life. We’ve got you covered with some things you can do to help pass the time.
Follow Orders
If you’re quarantined, please stay at home and do as advised. Understandably, no one wants to feel trapped in their own home. However, you owe it to yourself and the rest of the world to focus on getting better and lessening the chances of spreading the virus to anyone else.
Read A Book
Curling up to read a good book isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re stuck in the house, now would be a really good time to start. You can download the Kindle app, use Apple Books or the Goodreads app to get you motivated to explore all the good content that’s out there.
Take An Online Course
You’d be surprised how much access to knowledge we really have right at the tip of our fingers. These phones are good for more than sharing memes and posting pics. You can use this downtime to learn a new skill, obtain a certification, or learn a new trade. Browse the offerings on Coursera, Udemy, or enroll in an online school.
Netflix and Chill
Obviously, if you’re quarantined, you won’t be headed out to the movie theater. Still, streaming services like Netflix and Hulu make it easy for you to pass the time by binge-watching any of the available content on their platforms. You should, however, try to avoid spending all your time in front of a screen.
Stay In Touch
Being at home doesn’t mean you can’t keep in contact with friends and family. It’s easy to get stir crazy, so find ways to make use of Group FaceTime, Skype, and messaging apps.
Clean Your Home
Under normal circumstances, it may be easy to accumulate clutter and allow certain areas of your home to be in disarray when you’re running back and forth from work throughout the week. What better way to pass the time by tackling some much-needed household chores.
Remain Calm
Even if you’re an introvert who enjoys their solitude, being quarantined isn’t for the faint at heart. Try to avoid watching news coverage 24/7 as the repetitive talking points can likely instill more fear rather than a sense of calm. If you struggle with your mental health, consider reaching out to a professional who can offer you tips and tools to help you cope.⠀
Sign Up For Delivery Services
There’s no shortage of luxury services these days, so not leaving your home doesn’t mean you have to be without your favorite foods or products. While you may want to be wary about greeting your delivery person at the door, you can still use UberEats, Postmates, and Amazon to get whatever you need.⠀
Exercise
It’s not the same as getting out for a run or going to the gym, but getting in some physical activity while at home is ideal. Experts say that exercise is a proven method to treat stress and depression.
Avoid Conflict⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are quarantined with your family, try to give each other space as too much togetherness can lead to conflict. Remain positive and know when to carve out time for activities, rest, entertainment, and learning.
