A Minnesota mother is in custody after dragging her 11-year-old son out of bed and throwing him off a balcony.
According to NBC News, officials were called to the Minnesota apartment building on reports of a suicide attempt. Upon arrival, police found the body of the 11-year-old boy on the ground.
“He was injured pretty badly,” a police spokesperson told local news. “He had a broken femur, fractured jaw, and some serious head injuries.”
Unfortunately, the boy was unable to provide details about the incident. However, after further investigation, including interviews with the boy’s younger sibling, his mother, and her girlfriend, police concluded that the boy’s mother was responsible.
“They discovered that the mother had gone into the child’s bedroom, dragged him out of his bunk bed, and threw him off the balcony,” police said, adding that the family lived on the fourth floor.
The mother was then taken into custody, where she remains. As for the young boy, police say he is expected to survive.
Since then, the mother, who has been identified as Itayvia Lloyd, 33, has been charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, after she tried to attack an officer and spit in the face of another.
However, in regard to her son’s case, Lloyd has not yet been charged. Though she has admitted to dragging her son out of bed and tossing him over the balcony, she has not explained why.
