Donovan Mitchell phoned in to Good Morning America to give an update on his COVID-19 diagnosis and his initial feelings on Jazz teammate, Rudy Gobert.

Speaking with Robin Roberts, Mitchell said he has remained in isolation since his diagnosis. He has not shown any signs of illness and said the “scariest” part is that he wouldn’t have known he was a carrier had he not been tested.

“I’m fine. Things are going well. Just in isolation, I got a unique setup. No fever, no symptoms as of right now. I’m just blessed to be able to be OK,” Mitchell said. “…I keep making the joke when people ask … if you were to tell me I’ve got to play in a seven-game series tomorrow, I’d be ready to lace up.”

When asked about Gobert and his careless actions, Mitchell said, “It took a while for me to kind of cool off.” Mitchell told Robinson, “I’m glad he’s doing OK, I’m glad I’m doing well. I’m just really happy, to be honest, Robin. Neither he or I have children at home. I know I have some teammates that have children, have some staff that has children at home. So I’m glad that we were able to contain it as much as possible.”

Gobert was the first player in the NBA to test positive for the coronavirus, which led to the indefinite postponement of the season.

Gobert has since apologized to the public and the NBA organization for his carelessness towards the coronavirus and has pledged $500,000 to combat the virus.

“I was careless and make no excuse,” Gobert wrote on Instagram. “I hope my story serves as a warning and causes everyone to take this seriously. I will do whatever I can to support using my experience as a way to educate others and prevent the spread of this virus.”
