A 17-year-old boy in L.A., who tested positive for the coronavirus, died of septic shock after being turned away from an urgent care facility because he didn’t have health insurance.
Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris told the Daily Mail the teen was healthy and had no pre-existing conditions prior to his death. Once turned away, he was told to go to a public hospital instead. En route to Antelope Valley Hospital, the teen went into cardiac arrest and died approximately six hours later.
According to the publication, the boy’s father is an Uber driver and tested positive for COVID-19 as well as several other members of the family.
Hours after L.A. County health officials announced the teen’s death from coronavirus, health officials said there could possibly be an “alternate explanation” for his death and that it would be further investigated.
