Census 2020

Wednesday, April 1, is National Census Day, a day in which every United States resident is invited to participate in the 2020 Census.

The Census is a study conducted every 10 years, used to count everyone who resides in the United States. The Census also provides critical data to determine the number of seats for each state in the House of Representatives, which also translates to the number of delegates for each state in the Electoral College.

Asking questions such as The number of people living or staying at your home on April 1, 2020, and whether the home is owned or rented, the data also helps allocate federal funding to local communities for essential businesses and resources.

In celebration of the country’s 24th Census, When We All Vote has released a video message, discussing the importance of participating in the forthcoming Census.

Featuring When We All Vote Co-Chairs Janelle Monae, Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, and more, the video encourages people to make sure their head is counted.

“At a time like this, we are feeling a lot of uncertainty, and it’s critical that the people representing us understand our communities and our needs,” Gomez said. “I’m excited to encourage everyone to take a few minutes to participate in the 2020 Census online, over the phone, or by mail – because we all can have an impact on what our future looks like.”

The 2020 Census is the first Census that offers online submission. However, you can also complete the Census by phone or returning the form from the mail. Data collected for this Census will be used for the next 10 years.
