Since the release of Netflix’s Tiger King, new details have surfaced, revealing what really occurred behind the scenes with the series’ stars.

Joe Exotic’s ex-producer Rick Kirkham reveals the star was even more troubled than how the documentary showcased him.

In an interview with TMZ Live, Kirkham revealed the documentary is extremely accurate, amidst claims from Carole Baskins stating Netflix did not care about the truth.

“This documentary is so accurate, it’s frightening,” Kirkham said. “I’ve actually had nightmares the last several nights since it’s been airing.”

He went on to say, however, the documentary didn’t go into enough detail.

“If anything, the documentary doesn’t go far enough, to show how crazy Joe was.”

Kirkham continued, telling a story about Joe Exotic that wasn’t included in the documentary.

“I have one story that I’ll never forget,” he said. “This one day, this poor old woman drove in with a horse trailer and drove into the back where our TV studio was, and Joe said ‘Rick get your camera, get your camera, come record this,’ and the lady was crying. She had a horse in this trailer that was so old that she couldn’t take care of it. She said ‘Joe can you take care of this horse for me?’”

Joe Exotic agreed to take care of the horse and told the lady they’ll return it the next day. The lady reportedly cried as she hugged Joe Exotic as she made her exit.

“By the time she got to the exit of the zoo, Joe told me ‘Watch me, Rick, follow me with the camera.’ He walked right up to that horse trailer, pulled out his revolver, shot the horse in the head, then cut it up and fed it to the tigers. That was Joe Exotic on a daily basis,” he explained.

When asked about Baskin, Kirkham said that her and Joe Exotic are “two peas in a pod.”

“They’re both one in the same,” he continued. “I think that Carole has done the same things that Joe has done for years, breeding cats, making money off breading cats, and letting people come in and see the cats. The only thing is that Carole, I don’t think she abuses the animals quite as bad as Joe has. But putting an animal in a cage is abuse in itself.”

The Co-producer of Tiger King Eric Goode, recently revealed that there is leftover footage that didn’t make the deadline for the film, should there be a sequel.

“There are a lot of questions that people would like answered, and we will see if we can answer those. We do have a ton of footage,” Goode said in a statement to Page Six. “We did film [more] after we locked picture. We did film the sentencing [of Joe Exotic] and John [Finlay] with his new teeth.”

Universal Content Production (UCP) is also working on a project titled “Joe Exotic” set to tell the same story based on the second season of Wondery podcast series Over My Dead Body. The production will be executive produced by SNL cast member Kate McKinnon, who is also set to star as Baskin in the series.

Baskin, has since requested that McKinnon not use “big cats” in her series.

“Kate McKinnon is a wonderful actress. Big Cat Rescue implores Kate McKinnon to not use real big cats and cubs in the making of her series,” Baskin said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

“It would be cruel to use real big cats in a television series about cruelty to big cats,” Baskin added. “We hope McKinnon has a passion for animals and that her series will focus on the horrible lives captive big cats lead when exploited by breeders like Joe Exotic. We further hope she urges the public to support the Big Cat Public Safety Act that would end the cub petting abuse in America.”

So it’s safe to say there’s a lot more to learn about Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin and the rest of the ‘Tiger King’ cast in forthcoming projects.
