Kim Kardashian West Is Looking To Humanize As Many People As Possible With Her True Crime Documentary

Reality star turned law student Kim Kardashian West is on a mission to use her superstardom to aid in prison reform.

On Sunday, April 5th, Kim will debut her criminal justice on Oxygen, “The Justice Project,” which highlights her journey pursuing a law degree as well as her efforts to free wrongfully convicted felons, giving them a second chance at life.

In a recent interview with Van Jones for Vanity Fair done via video chat, Kim spoke to her motivation for creating the doc, saying, “I want to humanize as many people as possible.”

“I feel like it’s like my journey of what I’ve learned,” Kim said of the documentary. She also admitted that in the beginning, she avoided working with inmates who committed violent crimes. However, her perspective changed once she “started to educate myself and visit prisons.” Through getting to know the inmates who committed crimes in their youth, she realized that many were rehabilitated by their 30s and 40s.

“It doesn’t mean they are that mistake,” she added. “I just want people to feel empathy.”

Despite the forthcoming documentary, Kim does not claim to be an expert in the field, acknowledging that she is still learning and relying heavily on her “girl squad” of attorneys, which includes the professor guiding her through law school, Jessica Jackson.
