Xzibit clears the air after The Game tells the story of how he found out X isn’t actually from Los Angeles.
Alvin “Xzibit” Joiner was born in Detroit but has been mistaken for an LA native for some time. The Game sat down with HipHopDX back in 2019 and shared the story of how X was called out during the West Coast Peace about his background. “The funniest part of that f**kin day was Xzibit-…he gone probably be mad for this sh*t, but I can fight, and he can fight, and that’s my homie. Some um yeah, so Xzibit was on stage and was like saying we should implement this and the structure of the peace treaty and what not and somebody hopped up and was like,’ N***a, you from Albuquerque!’ And then like everyone start laughing and sh*t,” Game said. “And I didn’t know; I thought Xzibit was from LA.”
While X may be byway of Detroit and New Mexico, the rapper moved to LA when he was 17 and became heavily integrated with LA culture and west coast rappers. When the topic was brought up again, X set the record straight. “Here’s the thing, I’m not from New Mexico; I was born in Detroit. I lived in New Mexico, but I was only there for seven years, and then I cam here at 17 and then lived the rest of my life here,” he said in an interview with the publication. That being said, it’s very interesting the sh*t that people hold onto. You can easily pick up a phone and Google my name and see that I’m not from f*cking New Mexico! I love New Mexico. I loved Albuquerque, I got a lotta friends there, but I’m not from f*cking New Mexico.”
After laughing it off, X went on to name several other rappers who are well-known by cities they are not from. “Kurupt is from Philly! Nate Dogg is from Mississippi. Tupac is from New York! Get the f*ck outta here!” Xzibit added. “It doesn’t f*cking matter. If you’re gonna throw the stone, n*gga, throw the stone at everybody… And even if I was from Albuquerque, you let an Albuquerque n*gga come here and take all of Los Angeles. Holla at me.”
