Detroit Bus Driver Who Complained About Being Sneezed On Dies From Coronavirus

A bus driver in Detroit died from the coronavirus two weeks after posting a video on social media complaining about a sick passenger who he said refused to cover her mouth while coughing on the bus.

According to NBC News, 50-year-old Jason Hargrove got sick four days after posting the video on March 21 and then died a week later. In the video Hargrove expressed anger and concern over the safety of transit workers and other passengers.

“Public workers doing our job, trying to make (an) honest living, take care of our families,” he said in the video. “For you to get on the bus … and cough several times without covering up your mouth, and you know (we’re) in the middle of a pandemic — that lets me know that some folks don’t care.”

Mayor Mike Duggan and the Amalgamated Transit Union confirmed his death. Mayor Duggan also expressed his condolences and urged the public to watch Hargrove’s video.

“He was infected before we closed the front doors (on buses),” Duggan said. “Some of his language is graphic, but I don’t know how you can watch it and not tear up. He knew his life was being put in jeopardy … by someone who didn’t take this seriously, and now he’s gone.”
