With the success of Netflix’s “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness,” everyone is curious to know what the star of the docuseries, Joe Exotic, has to say about his newfound popularity. Well, the eccentric zoo owner gave an interview from jail, where he expressed feeling “ashamed” of the depiction of him in the series.
During a March 22nd interview that was posted on Twitter by Netflix on Friday, Joseph Maldonado-Passage, known to the world as Joe Exotic, said: “You know it would be nice if I could actually see me being famous out there, but I’ve seen these same four walls for a year and a half now.”
Exotic is currently being held at the Federal Medical Center Fort Worth, where he is serving a 22-year sentence for his role in the murder-for-hire plot of animal rights activist and Big Cats Rescue owner, Carole Baskin as well as animal abuse charges.
Despite wanting to enjoy his fame, Exotic did express his remorse for the way that he treated his animals during his time as an exotic animal collector and breeder.
“Go it in a cage with your animals for a week. I mean, when I left the zoo, and I sent my chimpanzees to the sanctuary in Florida and imagined what my chimpanzees went through for 18 years, I — I’m ashamed of myself,” he confessed.
Fans have also been eager to know what were his feelings today toward his arch-nemesis Carole, who he exchanged lawsuits within the years leading up to the infamous plot to kill her. However, in a change of heart that no one saw coming, Exotic revealed that he had moved on from the animal activist and was focusing on himself.
“I’m done with the Carole Baskin saga. It’s now time to turn the tables, and Joe get out of jail a free man and exonerated from all these charges,” he said.
In addition, Exotic thanked husband, Dillon Passage, for sticking by his side despite his arrest and lengthy sentence. Exotic is currently appealing his sentence.
