Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is considering opening schools back up in May.
According to CNN, DeSantis attended an educational round table where he claims that the Coronavirus “doesn’t seem to threaten” kids.
The Governor told the teachers and parents at the round table that no one under the age of 25 has died from the virus in the United States.
“This particular pandemic is one where I don’t think nationwide there’s been a single fatality under 25. For whatever reason, it just doesn’t seem to threaten, you know, kids.”
According to the CDC, four patients in the United States under 25 have died from the Coronavirus as of Thursday.
DeSantis states that he will look for more evidence before making his final decision on whether to open or continuing to close the schools, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
“If it’s safe, we want kids to be in school. Even if it’s for a couple of weeks, we think there would be value in that.”
