Quarantine…Quarantine…Quarantine!
Rapper Tory Lanez is one of few celebrities to have found success during the COVID-19 pandemic, creating the viral Instagram Live show, Quarantine Radio.⠀⠀
Initially, Lanez explained to USA Today that his live experience consisted of creating music mashups using “old pop songs from the ‘90s, like N Sync and Britney Spears.” But when he noticed that people were amused by the different types of music that he knew, the experience began to expand. First, fellow artist Bryson Tiller joined the live, then Justin Bieber, which eventually led to even more viewers joining in, thus, creating Quarantine Radio.
“The first time I did it, I didn’t even have a mic. I saw what DJ D-Nice was doing, and I just wanted to play music and have some sound clashes with some of my friends. I didn’t even think it was going to be big. The first time I went on, it was like 7,000 people in there.”
Now, Quarantine Radio has increased Lanez’s IG following by millions, featured dozens of celebrity guests, showcased twerk-a-thons, and has even caught the attention of MTV.
Yes, MTV.
In a virtual sit-down with Billboard, the 27-year-old rapper briefly discussed his favorite moment of Quarantine Radio, thus far, and the possibility of a tv show.
“MTV offered me something like a little 30-minute segment, but I don’t know what I want to do […] But, I want it to be something that the fans decide. If I end up coming up with an idea for it, hopefully, it’ll be on MTV.”
Lanez, then, recounted one of the greatest moments on Quarantine Radio:
“I think one of the greatest moments of this show is, just, all of the celebrities that have been in it. As a radio host, in 2 ½ weeks of radio hosting, I got to interview some people that radio hosts might never interview. Real talk, there are some radio stations that will never get Drake, Justin Bieber, and Raven- Symone all-in-one.”
Lanez continued: “It’s the amount of people who came into the show. I think it was just super dope to see everybody come together like that; all kind of celebrities, all kind of athletes, all kind of people that’s just chillin.”
One of Lanez’s most notorious guest was fellow rapper, Drake. In just a matter of five minutes, the Quarantine Radio live attracted over 300k viewers.
Other guests that have made appearances on Quarantine Radio include Young Thug, DJ Duffey, Lizzo, Chris Brown, Timbaland, Megan thee Stallion, 21 Savage, and many more.
You can catch Quarantine Radio “every other day” on Tory Lanez IG Live.
