Jason Mitchell, former star of Showtime’s The Chi, had no idea he was driving with ecstasy, marijuana, and guns when he was arrested last week.
According to TMZ, Mitchell’s agent Dr. Glenn Toby said the actor was driving in a friend’s rental car, heading to his mother’s home with family members when he was pulled over for careless driving.
The incident occurred on April 22, around 2 pm in Mississippi, as Mitchell was on his way to his mom’s house to secure a better lockdown location amid the coronavirus pandemic. During the stop, officers found two pounds of marijuana, 1,300 hits of ecstasy, and two guns in the car.
But now, the actor’s agent claims the drugs and guns inside the car were not Mitchell’s and said the entire arrest is just a big misunderstanding.
Mitchell was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and two counts of weapon possession of by felon.
He was released from jail after posting bail.
