It is a tough week for the Seattle Seahawks family. 24-year-old Jesse Williams, a defensive tackle for the Seahawks, has been diagnosed with papillary type 2 cancer, which is a form of kidney cancer. He will undergo kidney surgery in the coming weeks to remove the cancer from his body.

However, Jesse’s not going to let this setback stop him from pursuing his dream. In fact, this is just the latest obstacle to come across his path since being drafted to the NFL. He suffered back-to-back season-ending knee injuries in 2013 and 2014 and has bounced back each time. He is resilient and ready to fight this cancer head on. He also plans on returning to football once he’s fully recovered. “Although disappointing, I am a fighter and will handle this,” he said in a statement. “I am going to focus on my health and fighting this battle with a return to football as my ultimate goal. Thank you for your thoughts and support. Go Hawks!”

Jesse played college football at the University of Alabama before getting drafted to the Seahawks in 2013. Since joining the team, he has yet to play in a game due to his previous knee injuries. But the Seahawks have witnessed Jesse’s toughness and perservance firsthand and they are ready to support him 100% of the way.
