What would you do if you stumbled upon over $100K on the sidewalk? Albuquerque teen, José Nuñez Romaniz knows exactly what he would do. On Sunday, the 19-year-old, found a “clear clear bag full of cash” at a Wells Fargo ATM and did the selfless act of turning the money in. He now has a job offer at the local police station
“I did the right thing,” Romaniz told KRQE-TV. According to the station, upon discovering the money, he immediately called the 1-800 number on the ATM, as well as the police.
The money was left by a Well Fargo subtractor whose job is to fill the ATM. Apparently, the worker had mistakenly left the cash there by accident.
Despite anything, Romaniz told the truth.
“In the back of my head, I was just thinking about my parents, especially my mom. What she would do if I came home with the money and what she would do with her chancla to hit me.”
Romaniz, who is a student at Central New Mexico Community College studying criminal justice, hopes to pursue a career in law enforcement. He was fortunately offered a job after his incredible deed.
“What a great opportunity for us to see some good in the community. With all the tragedies we see with young people, this really restores our faith in the community as well,” Police Chief Mike Geier said of Romaniz’s actions.
