In February, Ahmaud Arbery, a black man, was targeted, attacked, and killed by a white man and his son. Earlier this week, a video surfaced of the crime being committed. Determining whether or not the murder committed against Arbery was not an act of racism, however, has become shakier than ever after the suspects’ claims have been considered irrelevant.
The “suspects claim they were chasing a suspect behind a series of burglaries in the area.” Yet, according to police, the last break-in the neighborhood was nearly two months prior of the shooting.
Cheri Bashlor, Glynn County Police Lt., said, “the last know burglary occurred seven weeks before the Feb. 23 incident.”
After a two month wait, this past Thursday, Gregory and Travis McMichael were finally charged with murder.
Arbery, a friendly and family man who “was known to the area and would sometimes wave to his neighbors,” would have turned 26 on Friday.
