Twitter employees can continue to work from home even after the coronavirus shutdown is over.
Most of us will have to return to our company offices when this is all over, but Twitter CEO #JackDorsey is letting his workers stay home as long as they want, according to NBC News. An email that was obtained by BuzzFeed News said Dorsey would most likely not open Twitter offices before September and that all physical events would be canceled for the rest of the year. However, the company plans to coordinate and reschedule events for next year, according to the outlet.
“We were uniquely positioned to respond quickly and allow folks to work from home, given our emphasis on decentralization and supporting a distributed workforce capable of working from anywhere. The past few months have proven we can make that work,” said a Twitter spokesperson. “So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen. If not, our offices will be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions, when we feel it’s safe to return.”
As businesses begin to reopen, executives are trying to find ways employees can maintain their roles while also practicing social distancing methods, hence the reason for Dorsey’s latest announcement. Other tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft transitioned to a work-from-home format earlier on. NBC News reports that Google plans to have employees work from home until 2021, but some are expected to be back in-house by early summer. The social network plans to have some staffers physically come back to work after the July 4th weekend.
Several states have begun to reopen the economy. Los Angeles recently released certain stores to go back to business, including retail companies, golf courses, florist shops, and some popular hiking paths.
