In support of the COVID-19 Solidarity Response fund for the World Health Organization, the Prince Estate will be partnering with YouTube to host a three-day streaming event of Prince and the Revolution: Live. From Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17, the legendary concert will be available for viewing on Prince’s official YouTube Channel. It was initially filmed on March 30, 1985, near the end of the late singer’s Purple Rain tour in New York.
Donations given by viewers will be matched by Google. According to Variety, the company will match $2 for every $1 that is donated. They will continue until the donations have reached up to $5 million.
In honor of the event, YouTube will be hosting a watch party a day before the streaming of Prince and the Revolution: Live will take place. At 7 p.m. EST, an hour before the official watch party begins, viewers will have the chance to join a Q&A with Bobby Z, the drummer for Revolution. The pre-stream special will be conducted by Andrea Swensson, host and writer of Minnesota Public Radio’s 89.3 The Current.
On the first day of the streaming event, an audio album version of Prince and the Revolution: Live will also be released for fans.
