The 2015 Billboard Music Awards : blogged by @niksofly

To debut your visual during the Billboard Music Awards is a pretty spiffy strategy. Twitter followers of Swift were teased of the all-star cast of Swift’s “ Bad Blood” visual days prior, but their palette was finally satisfied when she released the visual during the BBMA’s.  It was one of the many highlights of the evening. Hosted by Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen, this year’s event teetered the line of interesting.

Taylor Swift was the big winner Sunday night taking home eight of the coveted awards including Top Artist and Top Female Artist.  Sam Smith snagged a few, but accepted silently due to his recent vocal surgery.  Iggy won at least three awards, but I’m sure after that performance with Spears, we as a collective body are now certain Iggy is winning on trend alone and not talent. I was rather delighted that J.Cole won best rap album , but in the same breath , it perplexes me that Big K.R.I.T.’s Cadillactica didn’t receive a nomination. Not to ride the Iggy hate bus, but I would think that with content, artistry, production, and concept, K.R.I.T.’s album should have been one of the five, but I digress.

Ed Sheeran’s performance of “Bloodstream” was wonderful. It is something about the simplistic approach of an acoustic performance that is beautiful. I enjoyed Hozier’s performance of “Take Me To Church” even though I am still confused on how I truly feel about the song.  Mi Mi hit viewers with “Visions of Love” and for a quick second I was caught in the 90’s matrix.  Nicki Minaj’s light twerk session stole the show, but hands down, the best performance of the night went to Kanye West. Although 95.5555% of “All Day” and “Black Skinheads” was censored, Ye still managed to be electrifying. It’s safe to say Billboard saved the best for last.

My only complaint is that it wasn’t enough time for more performances.  I needed another fix from the cast of Empire (don’t judge me) and Imagine Dragons. The BBMA’s could have kept the formalities to themselves if it meant I could have had an extended version of Ed Sheeran.

Deep Sigh.
