Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver, 22, joined the growing list of NFL players with recent off-the-field issues on Saturday night as he was arrested in Houston on charges of DWI and unlawful carrying of a firearm, according to the New York Post.
Police responded to a 911 call made by another driver who witnessed Oliver’s Ford pickup truck failing to maintain in his lane.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to NBC News, police discovered the player behind the wheel with an open can of beer between his legs. Video obtained by Yahoo! shows Oliver was given a sobriety test at the scene while wearing a Buffalo Bill’s shirt and was then taken to a nearby hospital for a mandatory blood test. He was later transported and booked at the Montgomery County Jail. Police also found a pistol in his vehicle.
“We are aware of the situation, and we are gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this point,” the Bills said in a statement.
The former University of Houston football star was picked by the Buffalo Bills’ as the NFL’s 9th overall pick in the 2019 draft. He had 43 tackles and five sacks in his rookie season.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Oliver’s arrest was the fourth among NFL player arrests on Saturday, adding to the NFL nightmare. According to the New York Post, Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker turned himself into Miramar Police in Florida as he faces four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault. Seahawks corner Quinton Dunbar, who along with Baker is accused of an armed robbery during a house party, also turned himself in. A $100,000 bond was set for Dunbar on Sunday morning.
Ex-Giants wide receiver Cody Latimer, currently with the Redskins, was arrested early Saturday on charges of assault in the second degree, menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm in Colorado.
