Gilbert Arenas says he recently won $300,000 playing the Powerball.
In an Instagram post, Arenas explained that he rushed out of his house on May 12 to play some lotto numbers but forgot his gas tank was on E, and he had left his money at home.
Arenas said all he had was $10, so he pulled into a gas station to use the $10 on gas so he can make it to his favorite gas station, where he usually buys his lottery tickets. While there, he said a “struggling man” approached him and asked him for some money.
He said his first thought was, “I don’t have time for this shit today.” With only 8 minutes to get his numbers in before the station closed, Arenas told the man he only has $10 on him, and he needed to hurry to get to play his numbers. But he still offered the man $5.
The “struggling man” refused the friendly gesture because $5 worth of gas wouldn’t be sufficient enough to get Arenas to his gas station and back home. So he made Arenas an offer of his own, telling Arenas, “You keep the $5 and after you win, hook me up with $20.”
Arenas eventually made it to his “hook-up station,” but they had closed up early, and he never got the chance to play his numbers.
But, in an unpredictable turn of events, Arenas said he woke up Wednesday morning to a text message declaring him the winner of the Powerball. Still, Arenas said he didn’t buy into it because he never got a chance to play the numbers.
Later in the evening, when he went to his “hook-up” station to play his numbers, the owner ran out, telling Arenas he won the Powerball from the previous night.
He was confused about how he could have won if he never played his numbers. But the owner explained that he played his numbers for him.
Ultimately, Arenas said he headed back to the station where the man was and gave him his cut as promised. The amount that the man received wasn’t disclosed, but he said the man hugged him and was thankful for the blessings.
Arenas ended his story, saying, “I’ve given back to the homeless, but was never blessed by one. His kind gesture of me making it back home blessed that ticket.”
