Director Of ‘The Last Dance’ Explains Why Michael Jordan Ate The Pizza That Made Him Sick Before Game The “Flu Game”

Last night was the conclusion of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bull’s The Last Dance documentary.

The mini docuseries concluded with parts 9 and 10, which discussed a series of events similar to the other eight episodes.

However, one part that stood out, in particular, was Jordan’s infamous “Flu Game,” where played in Game 5 of the 1997 finals after coming down with an illness the night before.

Jordan said it was “bad pizza” that made him ill. Jordan was starving, and everything nearby was just about closed as they were staying in a hotel on the outskirts of Salt Lake City, Utah, to play against the Utah Jazz in the finals. As a result, Jordan ordered a pizza around 10:30 P.M.

The pizza that was delivered by a group of guys which worried Jordan’s trainee.

“Five guys delivering one pizza,” Jordan’s former trainer Tim Grover said. “They’re all trying to look in. I take the pizza. I pay for them. I put this pizza down. I say, ‘I’ve got a bad feeling about this pizza.’”

But, Jordan ignored Grover’s warning.

“I ate the pizza,” Jordan said. “All by myself. Nobody else ate the pizza. I wake up about 2:30 throwing up left and right.”

When Grover was called to Jordan’s room at around 3 A.M., he recalled Jordan’s condition as he remembered the baller being “curled up in a ball and shaking, asking for a doctor.”

“It really wasn’t the flu game,” Jordan said. “It was food poisoning.”

Despite Jordan’s explanation and clarification, fans were still left with questions. But now, ‘Last Dance’ Director Jason Hehir is opening up about why Jordan was alone in eating the pizza.

According to Hehir, Jordan spit on the pizza so no one else would be tempted to eat it.

“When the pizza shows up,” Hehir said on the ‘Jalen & Jacoby Aftershow,’ “Michael says, ‘Everybody, do not touch this pizza. This is mine. You didn’t wait for me, don’t touch this.’ So he spits on the pizza.”

Hehir explained that it wasn’t the first time that Jordan had pulled that stunt. He also revealed that he believes Jordan when he says no one else ate the pizza.

So despite many conspiracies regarding Jordan really having the flu, or being hungover, etc., it turns out he really just ate a bad pizza that fans likely “spiked” when they found out they were being delivered to Jordan. The story is believable due to Jordan being the only reported illness at the time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
