The Chicago Grubhub driver, who ran over a restaurant employee over social distancing, has turned himself in to police over the weekend.
Grubhub driver, Aamir Mohammed, 30, was booked on multiple criminal charges pertaining to the hit and run.
TMZ is reporting that Mohammed was charged with two counts of aggravated battery while using a deadly weapon and causing great bodily harm, one felony count of failure to report an accident/injury, a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene, and a misdemeanor count of driving with a never-issued license.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when Mohammed showed up to Ms. T’s Southern Fried Chicken, located in the Lakeview neighborhood on Chicago’s north side, to pick up a customer’s order. While there, Mohammed got into a back and forth with the owner Angenita Tanner after she asked him to wait outside. Due to social distancing measures, Tanner only allows one person inside the establishment at a time. Mohammed became agitated, kicked a door, and stormed out of the restaurant.
The argument spilled outside while Tanner continued to go back and forth with Mohammed. Tanner, another employee, and Tanner’s daughter Bijan Early, all took out their cellphones to take down the driver’s license plate and call the police.
In the now-viral video, Early is seen standing in front of Mohammed’s car while the argument continues. Mohammed then runs Early over and drives off. Bijan suffered injuries to both shoulders, her pelvis, and her head.
Grubhub has revoked the driver’s access to the platform and is cooperating with the Chicago Police Department.
