Ex-WWE star Shad Gaspard was found dead on Venice Beach early Wednesday morning after having gone missing while out swimming with his son.
The L.A. County coroner identified a body that was found on the beach to be that of missing ex-wrestler, according to TMZ. He was 39.
Someone on the beach spotted the body around 1:30 AM on Wednesday morning and called the police.
On Sunday, Gaspard had taken his 10-year-old son to the newly reopened Marina Del Rey beach. He was with a group of swimmers, including his son Aryeh, that got caught in a rip current south of the pier.
Gaspard told first responders to focus on saving his son first, which they did, and when they went back to rescue him, he had been pulled under by a wave.
A search for Gaspard had been suspended Tuesday. The search had been carried out by the US Coast Guard, Los Angeles County lifeguards, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, to no avail.
He was one half of the wrestling duo Cryme Tyme with is partner JTG.
Gaspard is survived by wife Siliana and their son. Our condolences to his family and friends.
