Tennis star Naomi Osaka is out here making big moves.
According to Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes, Osaka has set a new record, and it’s a big one.
Surpassing Serena Williams, Osaka has now set a new record for most money earned by a female athlete in a single year.
Over the course of the past year, Osaka earned $37.4 million in earnings and endorsements, jumping ahead of Williams by $1.4 million. According to ESPN, Osaka won three tournaments in the 2019 season and made $6,788,282 in prize money. Meanwhile, Forbes estimated that the tennis star made $16 million in endorsements.
However, it’ll be interesting to see if Williams reclaims the feat next year, as Williams held the title of highest-paid female athlete for the last four years.
Prior to Williams, Maria Sharapova landed the top spot, earning $29.7 million in 2015.
