Adam Sandler Reveals Near-Death Experience on Set of “Uncut Gems” After Co-Stars Got Too Rough

Adam Sandler has been the talk of the internet for his performance in the blockbuster film Uncut Gems.

Now, as the movie, which was released this past winter, is now available for streaming in the US on Netflix, an interview with Sandler and the directors of the film, Josh and Benny Safdie, has resurfaced.

The interview was done last fall, however, to prevent spoilers before the movie’s theatrical release, some parts of the interview were left out until now.

According to the Safdie brothers, the security guards in the film shown fighting Sandler’s character, were at one point too rough with the actor, “mishandling” him during the scene.

“Sandler’s so in it, he’s so into the character that it started to actually get a little scary one or two times because he’s getting choked at one point in the scene and there were all these cues. … There was one take when Sandler was getting choked, and he was trying to tap out, but the actor thought he was just being Howard, so he choked harder, and Adam couldn’t breathe,” Josh Safdie told Entertainment Weekly.

The security guards were played by first-time movie actors  Keith William Richards and Tommy Kominik.

The co-directors revealed that Richards and Kominik were “very professional.”

Sandler revealed that he would go home with bruises due to the physical altercations his character was involved in for the film.

“Oh my goodness, yes. The boys went at me pretty good — they beat me up I’d say maybe 120 different angles worth. And yeah I had some spots on my body,” Sandler revealed.

Despite the beat down, Sandler exclaimed that he would “die to work with them [Safdie Brothers] again.”

“I love these guys; I love ’em. I mean, they’re incredible filmmakers,” Sandler said of the Safdie brothers. “I love having these new friends, we talk all the time, and I think they’re just great, great people.”
