Another video of an unarmed, non-resisting Black man being held at gunpoint has spread across social media. Thankfully he wasn’t murdered.

It’s been a tough time for Black people since forever, and 2020 has not failed to deliver the same amount of pain. From Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and more, Black people have been witnessing members of our community be beaten, discriminated against, and killed.

The latest case to make headlines is the mistreatment of 21-year-old Tye Anders, who was held at gunpoint on May 16 in Midland, Texas. The video starts with Anders lying on the ground in a front yard with his hands behind his back while several police officers are pointing a gun at him. At one point in the video, you can hear Anders crying and yelling, “I’m scared.

As the video is ending, police then start to move towards Anders. Ander’s 90-year-old grandmother then walks towards the police who are trying to handcuff Anders, and the police end up allegedly pushing the elderly woman making her fall to the ground. In the background, you can hear the woman recording the incident yell: “You pushed her!” The entire ordeal happened because Anders allegedly rolled through a stop sign. Anders’ attorney, Justin Moore, told NewsWest9 that Anders did not commit a traffic violation and was targeted solely because of the color of his skin.

“Racial profiling and pretext stops have been at pandemic levels in this country for generations. This incident falls within this age-old trend of following black men and arresting them for fabricated reasons,” Moore said.” “As Tye laid on the ground compliant, yet scared, his 90-year-old grandmother came out to deescalate this high-stress situation by praying for her grandson and officers. That also didn’t work. As the officers approached, they ended up assaulting her and knocking a 90-year-old woman to the ground.”

This isn’t the first time Anders has been mistreated by the Midland Police Department. His attorney says he has previously filed a harassment complaint against its officers. He says he was assaulted in the back of their police car after the May 16 arrest. The Midland District Attorney’s Office is planning to issue felony charges against Anders. “I cannot comment on the strength or weakness of the case nor any potential outcomes. “However, there were no actions taken by any member of the Midland Police Department that would cause me any concern with moving forward with the case,” said “District Attorney Laura Nodolf in a statement.
