Chattanooga Police Chief David Roddy denounced the actions of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in a tweet on Wednesday, calling for officers who don’t see an issue with George Floyd’s death to turn their badge in.
“There is no need to see more video. There is no need to wait to see how ‘it plays out.’ There is no need to put a knee on someone’s neck for NINE minutes. There IS a need to DO something. If you wear a badge and you don’t have an issue with this…turn it in.”
The tweet currently has over 160,000 retweets and 626,000 likes.
Chauvin was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter on Friday for the death of Floyd. Chauvin is seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck for almost eight minutes in video taken by bystanders.
Floyd’s death has set off nationwide protests, with protesters demanding justice for George Floyd.
