Last week, retired police captain David Dorn was shot and killed while trying to protect his friend’s pawn shop amid violent protests in St. Louis. Now, a 24-year-old man has been charged in the fatal shooting.

The incident occurred on Tuesday outside Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry, and Dorn’s final moments were streamed on Facebook Live.

The suspect, who has been identified as Stephan Cannon, has since been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.

According to a probable cause statement obtained by CBS News, Cannon was captured on surveillance footage stealing televisions from the Pawnshop. When Dorn, who often checked on the business when alarms went off, arrived at the store, Cannon emerged with a gun.

In the video obtained by police,  Cannon then walked to the street corner, pointed his gun at Dorn, and fired several shots.

“At the time the shots were fired, (Cannon) was the only person standing at that corner,” the statement reads. “Multiple plums of smoke” can be seen in the area, where shell casings were also found, police said.

“[Dorn] was murdered by looters at a pawn shop. He was the type of brother that would’ve given his life to save them if he had to,” the Ethical Society of Police of St. Louis said after Dorn’s death. “Violence is not the answer, whether it’s a citizen or officer.”

According to reports, Cannon is also facing charges of robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. A second man named Jimmie Robinson has also been arrested and charged for burglarizing the store. Robinson’s bond has been set at $30,000.
