Several Petitions Call For The The Ku Klux Klan To Be Labeled As A Terrorist Organization

People are petitioning for the Ku Klux Klan to be categorized as a terrorist organization.

The Ku Klux Klan is a decades-old white supremacist hate group that has terrorized communities of color, specifically the Black community, for years. But now, people are taking initiative to put an end to the group by calling for it to be labeled a terrorist organization. More than 120,000 people have signed a petition called “Declare the KKK a terrorist organization” on change.org.

“This organization does not belong in this country; if declared a terrorist organization, any attack would be an act of terror and will be treated as such,” said organizers of the petition. There’s also another petition that is working to have the #KKK classified as a terrorist organization; its name is “Change KKK status into a terrorist organization.” That petition has gained more than 327,000 signatures. One of the petitions highlights how the KKK is still “active in certain parts of the country and has public rallies.” Another petition, titled “Make the KK illegal,” has more than 250,000 signatures.

The organization, which was founded back in 1865 in the South after the Civil War, has continued to wreak havoc in America by inflicting pain and performing inhumane acts on the Black community, non-white communities, and the Jewish community. But, the new petitions are working towards making the organization illegal. “The Ku Klux Klan is a white supremacist hate group with historic background of terrorism, including countless physical assaults and murders,” read the “Make the KKK illegal” petition. “Hate should not be a way to bring communities together, nor should it be allowed or tolerated,” it continued.

While we so often see the KKK depicted and portrayed in media, the KKK is a very real, breathing, and growing group of hate-filled people. The white supremacist group has been the catalyst behind thousands, if not millions of murders. Some members of the secret organization include everyday people we know like doctors, lawyers, police officers, dentists, and even political leaders. And even though members of the organization hide behind white coverups, they come together as a group publicly still in many parts of the country. It’s time we all come together to finally remove this hateful group that has been plaguing the country for years.
