There have been new developments in the case of George Floyd, thanks to a former co-worker who worked with Floyd at the Minneapolis night club, El Nuevo Rodeo.
David Pinney sat down with CBS News on Tuesday to discuss the history of Floyd and his murderer, former officer Derek Chauvin.
According to Pinney, the two worked together years before Chauvin killed Floyd. Floyd worked as security inside the club, and Chauvin worked as an off-duty officer outside. According to the Pinney, Chauvin knew Floyd “pretty well” and stated there was a history of tension between the two.
“They bumped heads,” Pinney told CBS. “It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue,” he added when asked to elaborate.
Club owner, Maya Santamaria also broke her silence to CBS News and bolstered Pinney’s claims. She alleged that Chauvin had a different approach when dealing with black club patrons. When asked by CBS if she thought Chauvin had a problem with black people, Santamaria responded by saying she thinks he was “afraid and intimidated” by black people.
Floyd’s family believes the former officer had a personal vendetta against Floyd. If the court agrees, Pinney and Santamaria’s statements can help upgrade Chauvin’s charges to premeditated first-degree murder.
For now, America continues to wait for the case to move forward. Let us pray justice is served.
