After spending 43 years in prison for a murder they did not commit, Florida men Clifford Williams and his nephew Nathan Myers were released last year.

According to Bossip, at the time they were accused of fatally shooting Jeanette Williams at a party in 1976, Clifford was 33 and Myers was 18.

Their trial lasted 2 days, and consisted of a lack of witnesses to testify for the men, to get them off and thus one was sentenced to life and one was sentenced to the death penalty. Even after someone else confessed to the killing years later, Williams and Myer have been incarcerated ever since.

Now William in his late seventies and Myers in his early sixties, the men are eligible to receive compensation for their unjust time spent behind bars.

Governor Ron DeSantis is set to approve a bill consisting of $2 million for the men for their time in prison. Though, Myers has been approved to receive the compensation, a law had to be passed for Williams to be eligible for the funds due to previous, unrelated felonies, the outlet reports.

In a press conference following the passing of the bill, a lobbyist expressed their amazement for Williams’ positive outlook on the situation.

“You don’t have a bitter bone in your body. I don’t know how you did it,” Larry Sellers said to Williams.

“He did it. It wasn’t me. I thank him,” Williams responded as he smiled and pointed upwards, referring to God.
