Police are investigating the murder of transgender woman Dominque ‘Rem’mie’ Fells.
On Monday night, police officers pulled the dismembered body of Rem’mie Fells out from the Schuylkill River after it was discovered floating in water near Bartram’s Garden Dock & Community Boathouse a little before 7 p.m.
“The pain of such a loss is always difficult, but it is especially deep as we are in the midst of Pride month—a season typically filled with joy and celebration for many in our community,” the Philadelphia Office of LGBT Affairs said in a statement about the incident. “We are committed to ensuring that acts of discrimination, bigotry, and hatred are never tolerated in the city of Philadelphia. Know that we see you, we grieve with you, and we join you in solidarity at this time of great sadness.” The death is being investigated as a homicide, according to Fox 29.
A GoFundMe page has been created for Rem’mie, which was started by Rem’ mie’s sister to pay for Rem’ mie’s funeral costs. Police are asking that anyone with information please contact the Philadelphia Police Department directly, or call the tippling at (215) 686-TIPS. You can also submit a tip via the police department’s website.
Fells is the second transwoman to be murdered this week, along with #RiahMilton of Liberty Township, Ohio. Rem’ mie was 27 and Milton 25. Milton was shot by two teens and an adult in June after repeatedly being lured to a nearby park. The suspects include Kaleb Marshall Tooson, 18, Tyree Jeffery Cross, 25, and a 14-year-old girl. According to police reports, the three individuals robbed Milton and shot her multiple times.
Rest in peace, Rem’ mie and Riah.
