Washington D.C. mayor, Muriel Bowser, took a stance when she had “Black Lives Matter” painted in giant yellow letters down 16th, a.k.a, the street leading to the White House. Now, a week later, Mayor Bowser is being sued by a group of activists, claiming she violated the First Amendment’s establishment clause.
The lawsuit, which was filed on Wednesday, claims that Mayor Bowser shows “favoritism to “the Black Lives Matter cult orthodoxy,” according to The Washington Times. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The suit also complains of her “incendiary language,” referencing her decision to change a street name to “Black Lives Matter Plaza.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“The Black Lives Matter banner conveys that black people are the favored race of the city of DC, which is of course a racist contention floated by a racist Democrat who persistently refuses to think logically,” the lawsuit said.
Street preacher, Rich Penkoski, is the named plaintiff in the case, according to The Washington Times. His main argument is that the mayor is supporting one orthodoxy over others.
The activists are calling for the mayor to take a more secular standing, as they view the BLM movement to be a religious one.
Penkoski, along with two others believe, that for Mayor Bowser to prove she is not showing favoritism, she needs to “alternate other banners down the street.” For example, “Blue Lives matter,” to honor law enforcement; “Green Lives Matter” to honor Guard units; and “All Lives Matter.”
The Mayor’s office has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
