Elijah McClain’s Mom: “They’re Covering Up His Murder…I want Life In Prison For Cops Who Killed Him”

In an exclusive interview with TMZ, the mother of Elijah McClain firmly believes the City of Aurora, Colorado, and the police officers that killed her son are trying to cover it up.

Sheneen McClain told the outlet that despite the reopening and massive attention brought to her son’s case, she still feels “the minute that Elijah’s last breath left his body, they got away with it” due to the help of an “elaborate cover-up.”

Colorado Governor Jared Polis said, “Elijah McClain should be alive today, and we owe it to his family to take this step and elevate the pursuit of justice in his name to a statewide concern.” He has since assigned a special prosecutor to look into the details surrounding Elijah’s death.

But Sheneen, who is happy with the recent awareness of Elijah’s death, is unimpressed and claims it is “just another song and dance” in an attempt to save face amid the growing attention of Elijah’s tragic story, which has collected over 3 million signatures on its Changed.org petition. Sheneen believes the city and police hope the story will once again go away.

That is unlikely to happen now that the story has gained widespread outrage across news outlets and social media. Aurora’s district attorney’s office reported earlier this week that their emails and voicemail are flooded with thousands of people demanding District Attorney Dave Young reexamine the case. Young is responsible for clearing the responding officers of wrongdoing and has shockingly been firm on his stance.

“It shouldn’t take a petition signed by millions to hold police accountable when they kill an innocent black man,” family attorney Mari Newman fairly stated.

Elijah’s mother wants justice and says the only thing that would make her “feel better as a mom” is for the acting officers to be sentenced to life in prison. She also wants to see the other officers who watched and failed to deescalate be punished as well, proposing a felony on their record for going against the oath as a suitable solution.

Since Young initially decided not to charge the officers, it’s not surprising that Sheneen acknowledges the uphill battle ahead or her doubts that justice will be served. She knows she is not the only one that “sees how injustice is.” However, we must all continue to be positive, safe, and demanding in our pursuit for justice and humanity.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m always going to be hopeless and feel helpless because, as his mom, I can’t protect him, I could not protect him that day. So that’s always going to be a stain on my heart, that’s always going to be that dagger I can never take out…”
