A woman hiking at the Grand Canyon has died after falling off of the edge, according to park officials.
In a statement posted to the National Park Service website, the hiker was identified as 59-year-old Maria A. Salgado Lopez of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Salgado Lopez was hiking off-trail at Mather Point on Friday and taking photographs with family when she accidentally stepped off the edge, the statement said.
Park rangers located her body 100 feet below the rim.
The park is asking that visitors to the area stay on designated trails and walkways and keep a safe distance from the edge.
