18-year old Daryle Bond and 22-year-old Christian Wingfield were charged with first-degree murder, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham confirmed at a press conference on Thursday. It is unclear if either of them has an attorney.

“I know I speak for the entire community when I say that we are heartbroken and outraged by Davon’s murder. It is just the worst thing that can happen in a community for a child to lose his life to violence,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Thursday.
The rising little league football star was murdered Saturday when a group of five men began carelessly shooting shortly after 9:20 p.m. in Southeast Washington. McNeal was visiting family and had jumped out of the car to run into his aunt’s house to retrieve a phone charger when he was shot in the head, according to his grandfather, John Ayala.
McNeal’s slaying was one of at least six children who were killed in gun violence across the country during the Fourth of July weekend.
The police department is still offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the remaining suspects in McNeal’s death.
