Three Philadelphia women were arrested at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport on Tuesday, July 14, after deputies say they attacked Spirit Airlines employees at a gate over a delayed flight. A video of part of the incident circulated online.
According to Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest reports, Danaysha, 22, Keira, 21, and Tymaya, 20, threw items including phones, shoes, full water bottles and fast food at employees and went behind the counter, where at least one worker was physically attacked. Danaysha and Keira were charged with battery. Tymaya was charged with battery and petit theft after deputies say she took an employee’s phone. All three were taken to jail and later posted bond. Charges are allegations, and jail records did not list attorneys for them.
The video appears to start after the confrontation was already underway, so it does not show what led up to it. It does show employees gathering around a coworker as the women went after her, and other staff and passengers rushing in to help.
Spirit Airlines said three team members suffered minor injuries. In a statement, the airline said the three guests became combative after the delay, thanked its employees for their professionalism and the Broward Sheriff’s Office for its help, and called the behavior unacceptable. It referred further questions to law enforcement.
