A Las Vegas man has been arrested for “goading” a homeless man into performing a stunt that ended in his untimely death.
Keonte Jones, 28, was arrested and charged with a felony on Tuesday after allegedly provoking 55-year-old Larry Coner into performing a backflip for $6.
The incident occurred on June 30 after Coner approached Jones, asking for money. According to police, upon Coner’s request, Jones encouraged him to perform a “dangerous” backflip for a $6.
According to the New York Post, video of the incident was posted on Facebook and showed Jones holding the money as he laughed and explained that the man was about to “hit a backflip.”
However, after attempting the dangerous trick, Coner appears to land on his head.
“He done hit a backflip and went to sleep,” a man, believed to be Jones, said in the clip, as another man appeared to check on the motionless man.
According to Police, Jones continued “laughing and filming” for nearly 10 minutes, as he encouraged others to leave Coner alone and not call for help. Eventually, the victim was taken to a local hospital with a severe spinal injury. He later died from his injuries.
Officials were alerted about the dare by one of Coner’s relatives. As a result, Jones was arrested and charged with willful disregard of a person’s safety. He has since been released on bail but is expected back in court on September 14.
