Dominicans Trend Again After Video Shows Dominicans Terrorizing Young Haitian Boy And Trying To Kidnap Him

Dominicans have started trending again on #Twitter after a viral video showed Dominicans bullying a young Haitian boy, putting him in the trunk of a car and attempting to kidnap him.

In June, Dominicans began trending with a hashtag after recorded videos and images of Dominicans attacking Haitians during peaceful protests for #GeorgeFloyd emerged online. The videos and images sparked a conversation amongst Dominicans and Haitians about the two groups’ tainted history. While some Dominicans were calling out their own over their divisiveness, others claimed that the videos showed Dominicans protecting their neighborhoods against protesters who they claimed were causing destruction.

The latest video that was uploaded on Wednesday showed a group of Dominicans chasing after a young Haitian boy and trying to trap him in the trunk of a vehicle. The video was captioned in Spanish and translated to: “Say that there is no racism in the DR, that you and the people around you are not random with Haitians does not mean that there is no racism in this country. Don’t be blind that the video was recorded in the same country where you live.”

Now, people on Twitter are reacting to the torn relationship between Haitians and Dominicans. “Dear Fellow Dominicans, We are BLACK!!! You hear that?! We are BLACK!! And to all of you who think otherwise, use your twitter fingers, do some research, and get off your fucking high horse!! We HAVE to do better #blm Sincerely, A Fellow Dominican,” wrote one Twitter user.

Another user wrote, “I am ashamed that most Dominicans deny things like this happen EVERY FUCKING DAY in this country. Haitians are our brothers and sisters, yet you won’t stand for them when you see things like this? Fuck racism, and fuck you if you think treating people like this is okay.”

The hashtags, videos, and images have also ignited a conversation amongst the Latinx and Black community, highlighting the ongoing battle Dominicans have with their race and ethnicity. While not all Dominicans are Black, a great portion of the community has Black roots. The Source reports that the Dominican Republic is the only country in Latin America that got its freedom from Haiti. After gaining its independence from France in the 1800s, it took over the island of Hispaniola. Throughout history, the two communities have been pinned against one another with Blacks typically being depicted as negative or bad.

I hate when people start commenting on a subject like this without knowing the real truth, Haitians are treated better in DR than any country in the world, they get jobs and medical attention without proper documentation and often ppl give them food and even a place to stay, there’s a lot of misinformation going on, why isn’t there anybody posting videos the way they get treated in the rest of the world. Not just DR, and for those that always saying Dominicans are black, we’re not only black, we’re a mix race. Our origins are Taino Indians then mixed with European than mixed with Africans..

Where is the racism in that video? For God sakes…I bet you that the people playing that stupid joke on that kid are the same people who feed him, and certainly pay for his health and education. We need to sit and start looking at the world for what it is…If you are so concerned about Haitians in DR, go to the island adopt a few Haitian kids, claim them as your dependents and stop applying your sense of imperial dignity on others. Are Dominican black? By racists one-droppism standards were blacker than black, but, then, by rational thinking we are a mixed people of European and African ancestry. Therefore, we should not play the American game of denying one side of who we are. If our African half makes us Black, then our European half would make us White? I would laugh at myself if I pretend to claim I’m white. I’d lock up myself in the sanatorium. Well, wouldn’t the same rule apply if I pretend to be black? Sorry, I see. I’m not supposed to be what my history made of me. I’m supposed to accept whatever the fuck you think I should be. I’m proud to be human, to be a person of mixed races because nothing comes closer to the human experience. We are the result of biology and history, but you don’t get to decide how I choose to see myself. If America has a racial problem, we have a struggle for the island that you cheese-eating Americans will never understand. NOBODY DOES MORE FOR THAT HAITIAN KID THAN THE PEOPLE, THE DOMINICANS, YOU SEE IN THAT VIDEO. GO AND ADOPT A HAITIAN. STOP ALL YOU AFRO-CENTRIC RACIAL COMPLEXES. Let us be. Neither black nor white, we are mixed and proud!
