Thirteen people were shot early Sunday during a gunfight between two groups on the Riverfront in Peoria, Illinois. Authorities say the gunfight involved multiple shooters.
According to Peoria Police Department’s spokesperson Amy Dotson, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Police were dispatched to the area of Water Street and Hamilton Boulevard around 4:42 am and found a gathering of about 200 people. Prior to the shooting, a large fight broke out, PJ Star-News reports.
Of the 13 victims, seven injured were women. Two victims were transported by ambulance to the local hospital, others went by private vehicles. Dotson says two people were listed in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the neck.
The incident was a result of a dispute between the two groups, USA Today reports. When Dotson was asked if the incident was gang-related, she said it was “groups of people fighting.”
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The shootings add to a violent weekend in Peoria, which saw two separate incidents that left one dead and two others injured.
