The governor of Missouri is prepared to offer the St. Louis couple brandishing guns at protestors who were walking past their mansion a pardon if charges are filed against them.
On Friday, Governor Mike Parson appeared on a St. Louis radio show, and when he was asked about the investigation into the couple launched by prosecutor Kim Gardner, he said the couple “did what they legally should do,” according to The Hill, and when asked if he would consider a pardon, Parson said, “I think that’s exactly what would happen.”
“A mob does not have the right to charge your property. They had every right to protect themselves,” Parson said.
In June, footage of Mark and Patricia McCloskey was widely circulated, showing the couple shouting and pointing guns at a group of protestors marching down their street on the way to the home of St. Louis mayor Lyda Krewson. The couple claimed they felt threatened by the protestors and feared they would destroy their property or attack them.
Gardner has faced criticism from both the governor and President Donald Trump over her office’s investigation into the McCloskey’s.
“Both the Governor and Donald Trump came after me for doing my job and investigating a case. While they continue to play politics with the handling of this matter, spreading misinformation and distorting the truth, I refuse to do so,” Gardner said in a statement.
