As temperatures continue to rise, especially in the summer months, people around the world are looking for a way to stay cool. These days, there’s pretty much an app for everything, and Sony has come up with a device that can help moderate your body temperature. The Reon Pocket is a lightweight, palm-sized device with various heating and cooling settings. The product has a silicone backing that can be applied to your skin and electric currents that pass through the circuits in what’s known as the Peltier Effect in order to warm or cool. While the gadget can be handheld, it’s designed to be worn inside of a special Sony designed T-shirt. The customized undershirt is equipped with a back pocket allowing the device to rest between the wearer’s shoulder blades.
By downloading the app, you will be able to control the different temperature settings on the device. It can also be used to activate a boost mode, which controls the speed of the internal fan for up to two minutes. The Reon Pocket connects to both iOS and Android devices over Bluetooth and charges via USB. According to one user, when testing the product, “the Reon Pocket improved matters somewhat, even on its lowest cooling setting,” Which supports Sony’s claims that the Reon Pocket will “reduce your body surface temperature.”
Unfortunately, the device is not currently available in the U.S. as it has been released exclusively in Japan. However, the Reon Pocket is affordably priced at $122 for the device itself and $17 for each t-shirt, which is only available in white and beige. Depending on its success, it’s only a matter of time before distribution extends across the globe.
