Let’s re-familiarize ourselves with Javaris shall we? In 2009 Javaris Crittenton made headlines when he and teammate Gilbert Arenas got into an altercation that lead to both of them drawing guns in the locker room. We all remember that one. Then in 2011, Crittenton was involved in a drive by shooting that accidentally left a 22 year old mother of four dead, all stemming from a robbery. In 2012 Crittenton’s girlfriend and baby mother filed a restraining order against him, detailing at least 3 times he had been abusive towards her. Then in 2014 he was arrested for trying to buy 400 kilos of cocaine and 10 pounds of weed. Needless to say Javaris Crittenton has had his fair share of brushes with the law but it looks like things may be coming to an end.
In the case of the 2011 shooting, Crittenton admitted that he was a gang member and copped to his involvement in the incident that left the mother-of-four dead. Crittenton reached a plea deal just in time because jury selection for the trial wrapped Tuesday (yesterday) and opening arguments were scheduled to begin today. Prosecutors were preparing to introduce evidence that he joined a street gang his rookie year in the NBA but before things got to hot in the kitchen, Crittenton had a change of heart and copped a guilty (manslaughter) plea.
In court Wednesday, Crittenton tearfully apologized to the victim’s family. He admitted that he joined a gang for protection. Crittenton’s previous murder charge was dismissed as part of today’s plea agreement. Crittenton faces a 23 year prison sentence.
The driver of the car involved in the drive-by plead guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to three years in prison.
