Bobby Brown is known for his wild and entertaining stories, like the one time he accidentally fried chicken with cocaine when he was ten. Among his many industry-related stories is his claim that he taught Michael Jackson how to moonwalk.Â
This isn’t the first and may not be the last time the New Edition star takes credit for teaching the King of Pop how to slide his feet backwards gracefully. During a recent Instagram live chat with Fat Joe, Brown doubled down on his claim that he taught the legendary Michael Jackson how to do his legendary moonwalk.
“I’m letting you know that this is what happened. This is how the moonwalk was formed.” Brown said. Fat Joe had a hard time containing himself and began screaming during the live. Brown continued, “He perfected it, but I taught him how to do it. We can bring Ralph Tresvant, [Bel Biv DeVoe], all on; they were all there. We were in the foyer.”
In a 2017 interview with The Cypher, Brown claimed the moonwalk was one of his signature moves that he passed along to M.J. However, a few years after Jackson debuted the dance during his 1983 anniversary show, Shalamar’s Jeffrey Daniel told the Times that he taught Michael the dance, Hot New Hip Hop reports.
Brown has also claimed that New Edition members were the creators of the Just Say No Campaign and never received credit for that either.
Unfortunately, M.J. is no longer with us to say who taught him the infamous dance; still, it’s iconic.
