Triller Is Suing TikTok For Patent Infringement For Use Of Green Screen Video Feature

Social media phenom TikTok is being sued by Triller for the use of its green screen video technology.

According to a complaint filed Wednesday in the western district of Texas, the LA-based social video app, which is owned by Proxima Media, is suing TikTok and its parent company Bytedance for allegedly copying its “systems and methods for creating music videos synchronized with an audio track.” The basis of the complaint lies on the latest and increasingly popular TikTok feature called Green Screen Video, which allows users to record video layered on top of other videos and then sync those layered videos to music. Triller also said that TikTok and ByteDance Ltd willfully infringed their June 2017 patent by importing and selling its app for iPhones and Android-based smartphones.

Triller is requesting the court to rule that TikTok infringed its patent, as well as grant an injunction that would prohibit the company from further infringement. They are also seeking damages plus attorneys’ fees.

TikTok has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.
