Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, is partnering with Brooklyn’s Long Island University to launch a new school.
In a statement released Tuesday, Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez referred to the partnership as “a true investment in our community and young people in Brooklyn, in New York City and beyond.”
“We’re excited that The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment will provide unique insight, knowledge, and experiences for students and introduce the world to the next generation of unmatched talent,” she added, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment, is set to open next fall in 2021 and will start accepting applications this fall.
Roc Nation Hope Scholarships will be rewarded to 25 percent of the incoming freshmen class, allowing them to graduate debt-free. Recipients will be selected from an academically competitive group of need-based freshmen in New York, the blog reported.
The new school will offer undergraduate students degrees in music, music technology, sports management, and entrepreneurship and production.
“Our proximity in and around New York City’s epicenter of music and sports clearly positions us to offer unparalleled experiential learning and access to professional opportunities that will launch students to success,” LIU President Dr. Kimberly Cline said in a statement following the announcement.
The president said the university looks forward to joining Roc Nation to provide an “unprecedented educational resource that opens up the entertainment and sports world to a new and eager generation.”
Besides attending daily classes, college students will have the opportunity to participate in discussions with special guest artists and speakers. The college will also offer hands-on experience through internships.
In addition to providing resources for undergraduate students, the Roc Nation School will also extend benefits to high school students and younger generations through summer programs, starting next spring.
