Logic addresses the criticism he’s gotten throughout his career, specifically the remarks Joe Budden and Charlamagne Tha God have made about him.
In short: Logic says he doesn’t understand the alleged hate he receives from Budden and Charlamagne. “I don’t know what his issue with me is. I’ve never met him; I’ve never shaken his hand. I’ve always been authentically myself. I don’t really know what his issue is,” Logic said, referring to Budden.
It seems like Budden has been on Logic’s back for a few years now. Budden previously criticized Logic’s announcement about retiring, and then later apologized. However, Logic revealed that Budden’s words only assisted his growing depression at the time. But that didn’t faze Budden, as he responded that he wouldn’t be pressured by Logic’s “pandering,” Complex Media reports. “Hell no… I’m doubling down as soon as I get in there,” Budden said during an IG live with #LupeFiasco. “I’m not apologizing, exactly what he said is exactly why I said what I said. He’s pander king.”
He continued: “If your mental health is off to the point that you would like to kill yourself, over something that a stranger has said maybe three times… Then there’s some other work that needs to be done, that’s all. You don’t go on a promo run to discuss it. I don’t want anybody to die; I don’t want you to die, I don’t want Logic to die… Who else niggas think I don’t like?”
Logic has since acknowledged Budden’s apology but still maintains that he doesn’t “f*ck with” Budden’s “harsh” comments. However, he said Budden can have his own opinion. In addition, Logic opened up about his previous tension with #Charlamagne. “When he basically kinda called me homophobic without even watching an interview, and I was like, ‘I didn’t even say that,'” Logic told Genius, referring to his song called “clickbait.” “And then for him to just out his mouth be like, ‘Who raped your sister?’ so callous, that f*cked me up, and I actually held onto that for six years. And I was like ‘this isn’t healthy and I’m talking to my therapist about it.'”
From Charlamagne’s end, he believes Logic was being “disingenuous” when he was discussing the questions he asked during their interview. “Context matters. And not social media context, real actual context. And as you heard in that interview, he mentioned his sister being raped twice, okay? That’s why you got to listen to the whole exchange with Logic in full,” said the radio host. He admitted the problem with asking Logic about a false headline that accused the rapper of being homophobic, but, said those types of things “happen” in interviews. In fact, Charlamagne said he feels the issue between the two of them now stems from miscommunication. He said he wishes Logic well.
The rapper told Genius that he is open to having a conversation with Charlamagne. Budden said he would try to get into contact with Logic as well.
