After dropping her sexy single “WAP,” Cardi B sat down with the Breakfast Club virtually while quarantining in L.A.
In the interview, Angela Yee kicked it off, asking Cardi about her quarantine outfits, and Cardi says her outfits are “all a lie. It’s all for the Gram,” saying 60% of the time she is not fly.
Cardi says that she has spent the whole time in the studio working, but the pandemic caused her to experience depression. At first, she and Offset spent their time watching Netflix and f*cking, but then family and friends started getting sick, culminating with her having to send Kulture to New York, so she wasn’t around anyone with coronavirus.⠀⠀
As the interview continues, Cardi let it slip that she spoke to Joe Biden, causing Charlamagne to ask her if he called her, and Cardi sidesteps the question.
“I know him. I always felt like Biden, you know he balanced Obama because he was conservative. You know that’s what sways the conservative… knowing him and everything. I think he’s getting it,” she said. “He understands the people’s pain. He’s getting what we want. People think we want so much, but we want really simple things if you really think about it.”
Cardi told Biden, “’listen, we don’t want no false promises. We don’t want no fake sh*it to get people voting. Now y’all mad and you know what… I think we should just go with Joe Biden. Like, it is what it is,” she continued, saying that Biden needs a Black “mom” figure in his life.
Additionally, during quarantine, Cardi has been cooking more, even complaining about L.A. salads being dry and expressing her desire to do an avocado ice cream.
Envy asks how Meg ended up on “Wap:” She credits her stylist who is friends with Meg’s stylist with the link, who “was like, ‘You have to link up. I know you see the comments all the time; the people would love a song with y’all. You guys gotta get to know each other.’”
“I told him, ‘I know.’ Like, I’m just shy. One of my big things is that I’m really shy, especially when it comes to girls. I don’t know why. That’s just how I am… But they made it happen. We linked up, and we had girly conversations, it was mad f*cking funny,” she continued.
“After that, we started sending records to each other, and she heard ‘WAP’ and loved it. As soon as I got her vocals, I was like, ‘Aw sh*t! This sh*t is fire!’ I loved it.”
Cardi said working on the video, which dropped early Friday morning, was extremely smooth and easy. The video features cameos from several other high profile ladies, including Kylie Jenner, Normani, Sukihana, Rubi Rose, Rosalia, and Mulatto.
“When it came to working with her on the video, and with her team, it was just like butter,” Cardi said. “Like, it was just a hand-in-hand thing, when it came to our clothes, when it came to our choreography, everybody worked hand-in-hand. It was just so easy.”
When Charlamagne asks her if Quality Control is her management, she shuts it down.
“People think that I have like a QC management contract. I never had a QC management contract,” she said. “They were never officially my management, they were helping me for a long time, and they did a good job with me.”
Cardi’s husband, Offset, is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with QC and an attorney, but Cardi declined to comment on the ongoing suit.
Angela Yee asked her, “when is there an album coming?”
“I’m always gearing up for an album and everything. I have a lot of songs. I still feel like I need more songs,” Cardi says. “I don’t know. I just don’t know.”
